Recently I was reacquainted with a friend from my childhood, actually someone I was friends with when we were teenagers in the 90's. We caught up on all that was going on in our adult lives, we also reminisced on the good old days. We talked about people we both knew and what they were up to, about our adventures together, and we also talked about what we missed most about those days. So I went home with this nostalgic feeling, it feels good to dive into good memories, ones you thought you forgot about.
So me running into her, not only brought a great friend back into my life, but it left me thinking about...
The top five things I miss most about the 90's:
1) Music- I don't have to say much about this, it seems anybody can make an album and get signed nowadays.
2) Clothing- Baby Phat, Fila, Fubu, Kangol hats, and Levi jeans. We definitely had swag.
3) No Camera Phones- Privacy, Privacy, Privacy! Need I say more...
4) Children Wanting To Spend Time Outdoors- Too many kids are glued to their devices at home these days.
Playing Double Dutch outside is extinct and this makes me a little sad.
5) Natural Beauty- The time before the eyebrow craze, and the hair epidemic.
When you worked with what your Mama gave ya!
The list can go on and I can come up with a million little things I miss about the 90's.
Would love to hear what you miss most.
Don’t hold back...Keep it Guilly!

If you were born or grew up in the 90’s...
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear your opinions.
What do you miss most about the 90’s? Or what was your favorite memory growing up in the 90’s?
“I love being a 80’s baby & a 90’s girl!
My generation will already be valued.
Like a rare coin.

Very interesting how I can relate to most of what you listed (i.e., Levi's, privacy...remember that, music, ah...natural beauty, etc) but we all have different perspectives and nuisances that make each take on a memorable era unique. I love nostalgia and hearing someone else's take on it is always fun, something to absorb.
ReplyDeleteThat double dutch memory especially stuck out to me. I can't remember the last time I saw a group of girls (and boys, we used to jump in there) turning a bundle of ropes and masterfully evading the ropes. A lost art form, having given way to the cellphone. I would have to say my favorite memories were always the 70's-80's, but the 90's have been creeping in as competition with age. My best memories were likely (if I'm being honest) discovering marijuana and the Hip Hop/R&B. Irreplaceable and hard to emulate. I would've said the internet, but it's proving itself to be passive aggressive and not always a friend.
Thanks for the memories and lovely writing,
CFG
